A Prophetic Passover Seder

Many Christians celebrate Easter every year, totally unaware that Jesus rose from the dead three days after the Jewish feast of Passover. The date of Easter, named for a Teutonic mythological deity named Eostre, instead of being coordinated with the ancient Hebrew calendar, was set according to a regular pagan festival celebrating the start of spring on March 21, the date of the vernal Equinox. Instead of maintaining the Hebrew date of the 14th of Nissan, the Council of Nicaea, in 325 AD, set the date of Easter as the Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal Equinox. Although Easter Bunnies, chocolate, and Easter eggs may be rather amusing, especially for young children, they have far more in common with pagan holidays than the Biblical feast of Passover.

Rather than being a continual witness to Jews, as encouraged by the Apostle Paul, Christians have instead become a source of discouragement to them. Not only have we developed a religious calendar completely separated from the traditional Hebrew one, we have incorporated the use of pork, a food forbidden to Kosher Jews. We neither celebrate a commanded feast, nor do we provide a real positive witness to our Jewish brothers and sisters. We have lost touch with our Jewish roots, and have become repulsive to our Jewish siblings.

By celebrating the Passover, Christians reestablish their Jewish roots and become witnesses to our Jewish brothers and sisters. We can finally witness the intensely prophetic nature of the traditional Passover Seder, and more fully appreciate our Jewish roots. We regain our identification with Moses and the ancient prophets, sever our identification with pagan ritual and practice, and reassert our unification with the God of Israel. We finally regain the privilege of being a witness to both the gentile world and our Jewish brothers and sisters.

This work, rather than being a traditional Jewish Passover Seder based on the ten Egyptian plagues outline in the Book of Exodus, is a Prophetic Passover Seder, based on the completion of the condemnation of sin and our salvation as outlined in the Book of the Revelation.

I endeavor to provide background information, as well as a discussion of the differences between this and the traditional Passover Seder, as well as providing additional resources for further study.

While it certainly can be rather expensive to observe the Passover in an elaborate fashion, it doesn't need to be overly expensive. Probably the most expensive food item would be lamb, but this can either be supplemented or replaced by beef or even chicken if necessary to keep the cost down. Grape juice or even Kool-aide could easily be substituted for wine, and paper plates and cups could substitute for the traditional special cups and platters. In short, there is no real reason to avoid celebrating the Passover.

Even though I provide detailed information for a Passover Seder that could last several hours, I also include a shorter version that could take as little as an hour, in addition to the meal itself. Further, you can determine the length and complexity of your Passover dinner, just by the choices you make. If you want a celebration that lasts for 8 hours, you can do that; if you only have a little more than an hour, you can do that also. You are the one who decides how long, complex, elaborate, and expensive your celebration is. What you will do is greatly increase your understanding of the Passover feast itself, its intensely prophetic nature, Jesus' Last Supper, the traditional Church celebration of Communion, and the scope and cost of your salvation.

It is my hope and prayer that Passover will become a regular annual celebration for you and your family.
